Be responsible for strategic procurement tasks for the core electrical equipment of Elia’s and 50Hertz’s grid, in line with Elia Group objectives and business plans.
As a key member of the Elia Group Procurement Team, you lead the development of optimal purchasing strategies and oversee the procurement process through to contract signature. Typical primary system and FACTS equipment within your responsibility are power transformers, phase-shifting transformers, HV switchgear, STATCOMs, capacitor banks, …. With contracts reaching values of up to several hundred million euros, your role is pivotal in ensuring the success of our projects. In this position, you will…
- Work closely together with the technical and asset management departments of the Elia Group to gain an overview of the long-term requirements,
- Analyse the market for potential supplier worldwide, always with an eye on the current developments in the market and anticipating the requirements of the Elia Group,
- Prospect and motivate potential suppliers to join our supplier base,
- Based on the market insights, work out the medium- to long-term procurement strategy, together with a team of internal stakeholders,
- Take an active part in the implementation of the sustainable policies of the Group,
- Organize the EU procurement procedure from A (definition of selection and awarding criteria) to Z (negotiation and awarding of the contract),
- Participate in the optimization of internal processes, methods and tools in procurement,
- Depending on your experience, take responsibility for a complete family of assets working autonomously with a global scope,
- Manage actively the supplier relationship, including risk management, evaluation, development, and execution of audits,
- Contribute to building synergies and best practices for both entities, Elia and 50Hertz.
Your organizational skills, initiative and solution-oriented approach allow you to manage the cooperation with stakeholders from different countries ranging from internal departments, located in Berlin and Brussels, to suppliers in the whole world.
Required skills and experience
- Educational Background: You hold a Master’s degree in technical or engineering studies, or an economics degree with a strong technical focus, demonstrated through relevant internships or professional experience.
- Organizational Skills: You possess strong organizational skills, work independently, take initiative, and have a problem-solving mindset.
- Analytical and Result-Driven: You are analytical and focused on achieving results.
- Language Proficiency: You are bilingual in English and German, with proficiency levels ranging from B2 to C1.
- Experience: Ideally, you have 3 years of experience in a technical context, public procurement, or project management environment.
It is an asset if you offer:
- Experience in a technical context, procurement, or project management,
- Knowledge of SAP or Ariba,
- Knowledge of French and/or Dutch.

We are 50Hertz – one of the four transmission system operators (TSO) in Germany. Together with the Belgian electricity grid operator Elia (Brussels), we form the internationally active Elia Group. At 50Hertz, over 2,100 employees ensure that electricity flows over long distances reliably, with minimal loss, and optimally managed. As one of the four transmission grid operators in Germany, 50Hertz is responsible for high-voltage power transmission; control at this level is decisive for the stability of the grid and to ensure a secure electricity supply in Germany and Europe. We are part of a European grid association, working closely with colleagues throughout Europe. 50Hertz is part of a European company, working alongside Belgian grid operator Elia in the Elia Group. We work together closely in many key areas. Individual activities such as IT or purchasing are organised at the group level, which means that in these areas colleagues from Elia and 50Hertz work in a team from both Berlin and Brussels.
