Those responsible for the operation and maintenance of our offshore technology work from our sites at Güstrow and Greifswald. They work closely with the offshore projects division at the 50Hertz headquarters in Berlin, controlling the development and construction of new installations. Find out more: Offshore projects.
50Hertz is responsible for connecting the wind power generated in the Baltic Sea to the onshore power grid via undersea cables. To achieve this, we build the required infrastructure, relocate undersea cables as required, and then operate these installations. We also work on projects involving connections between power grids in the countries bordering the Baltic Sea, and now we also have our first projects in German North Sea waters. The work involved is diverse: Many steps are involved in the journey from planning to operation of installations, involving a wide range of specialists.
In addition to construction engineers and electrical engineers, our teams also include electronics engineers, business managers, lawyers and business engineers, and many others.

Other important requirements for success in an offshore career are a willingness to travel and use the English language. Personal skills are just as important as your technical qualifications. Working on platforms, technical installations, or in project management involves teamwork at the very highest level. We must be able to trust each other completely. Physical fitness and sea safety skills are required too. We do put safety first! To make this happen, all our employees who work on the relevant installations regularly take safety education and training courses.

As one of the four transmission grid operators in Germany, 50Hertz is responsible for high-voltage power transmission; control at this level is decisive for the stability of the grid and to ensure a secure electricity supply in Germany and Europe. We are part of a European grid association, working closely with colleagues throughout Europe. 50Hertz is part of a European company, working alongside Belgian grid operator Elia in the Elia Group. We work together closely in many key areas. Individual activities such as IT or purchasing are organised at the group level, which means that in these areas colleagues from Elia and 50Hertz work in a team from both Berlin and Brussels.
