Shape the view of HVDC technology within the Elia Group to develop standards that aim at the technology’s’ fullest potential.
A consistent view of the future of HVDC technology across the Elia Group is essential for our efficient growth path. Moreover, a clear understanding of the role we can and should take in shaping the market and developing the technology which is needed. Due to the innovative nature of DC projects, the business needs to decide which standards to develop and use, as well as what capabilities and new tools to build.
This position orchestrates and coordinates tasks across the Group to ensure that the necessary HVDC knowhow is available and accessible for the company. During the first year, the role will support the Group Asset Management Officer in developing concepts and will be responsible for unifying different existing perspectives into a common and shared positioning; thus guiding the Elia Group’s development in a unified and aligned direction.
The main goal of this role is to ensure that the Elia Group navigates global HVDC developments optimally and uses HVDC capabilities to their fullest potential, unlocking the most value for the Group and its entities. After fulfilling the project goals, the role will transition to leading HVDC asset activities of 50Hertz (approximately 75 &) and driving forward the development of Group aspects (approximately25 %).
Tasks:
- Overall coordination of HVDC activities for Elia Group and 50Hertz,
- Creating concepts and plans for developing the HVDC topics,
- Coordinating the involvement of the asset specialists (for example primary, secondary and linear assets),
- Managing interfaces, especially with project departments, competence center, maintenance and operation,
- Coordinating standardization and stakeholder activities in close collaboration with the relevant stakeholder groups mentioned above,
- Ensure flawless communication within the group and with external stakeholders,
- Driving the development and implementation of technical standards, best practices, testing scenarios for HVDC systems and its components.
Profile:
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering,
- Senior profile with a proven track record in the energy sector,
- Excellent understanding of the energy landscape,
- Extensive technical understanding of HVDC technology, including challenges,
- Ability of think strategically and to communicate convincingly to drive topics,
- Willingness to travel, ensuring a stable relationship with Group entities and the stakeholders,
- Be able to express and communicate in German and English.

As one of the four transmission grid operators in Germany, 50Hertz is responsible for high-voltage power transmission; control at this level is decisive for the stability of the grid and to ensure a secure electricity supply in Germany and Europe. We are part of a European grid association, working closely with colleagues throughout Europe. 50Hertz is part of a European company, working alongside Belgian grid operator Elia in the Elia Group.
